Deck of Cards Workout

Hey I've heard of the deck of cards workout before but I have never actually knew what it was until I did some research. So this workout is very simple and only uses a deck of cards. Normally, each suit is a different set of workouts for example, Hearts are crunches, spades are burpees, so on and so forth. And all face cards are worth 10pts, Aces are 11pts, Numbered cards are as valued. The goal is to get through all 52 cards everyday. You can organize this workout however you want by changing which exercises you want with a different suit for instance maybe you don't want crunches with hearts and want push ups with hearts its up to you.

How to
  1. Get out your deck of cards
  2. Flip one card over ex. 10 of spades. What ever you choose spades to be you do 10 of them. For now lets say spades are bicycle kicks, you do 10 of them.
  3. Flip the next card over..and keep flipping and do the exercises until the deck is finished
This workout may seem easy but its pretty intense but there are different versions too. I particularly want to get through the deck faster.

Here's how
  1. Get out your deck of cards
  2. Flip over 3 cards at a time and add them up. Ex: 2, Queen, 7, total of 19 points and you choose out of random what exercises you want to do for example squats you do 19 of them.
  3. Flip over 3 more.. and keep flipping til deck is finished
Here's the video I follow
Good luck getting Fit!!!

Outfit #1
This outfit explores the edgy side of the Gemini as you can tell by the black jacket and wedges. I still went along the colors as seen with the dress and jewelry.

Ive been listening to this band for a while now since 2005 and loaded their whole disocrapgy onto my ipod a few months ago and I absolutely love Coheed, their music really speaks to me and some of their songs even made me ugly cry with feelings lol. Olive Oil Beauty Breakdown

Olive oil is most commonly known for cooking but it also have benefits for you skin, hair, and nails. Sadly most people don't know this because of lack of research on their behalf , but its okay because I am going to breakdown the beauty benefits of Olive oil. Olive oil is wonderful for your skin, very moisturizing and keeps your skin soft and dry free. Instead of spending money constantly on products every month switch out for a bottle of Olive oil. I got mine from Walmart for $7.98 for a big bottle (Extra virgin Olive oil would be best)

Hijab fashion

So I have been on the interwebs one day just messing around and I came across hijabs. Just in case any of you who does not know what a hijab is its a head wrap that Muslim and or Somali women wear to cover their hair and themselves in practices of modesty or empowerment. I find this garment to be interesting and quite stylish. I know that the hijab is of some controversy were some say that it degrades women making them submissive to all men when in fact that is not the case. Times change in the world of fashion and the same applies to the hijab. The hijab can be worn in many ways and styles with different fabrics, stitching, colors, lengths, patterns and may other details. There are many other things you can add to to a hijab as well like broaches, decorative headbands, and even hats! I like how the hijab is so versatile.

DIY: T shirt Cutting

I have found a new love for T- shirt recon. I have always been a little scissor happy, cutting up everything and anything . Now I can put this to some use. This craft is an easy way to switch up your style and add some edge to a boring t-shirt that will have you friends asking you "How you do that" or "Where did you get that shirt from".

All you need is
  • Simple or patterned t-shirts (preferably 1 or 2 sizes bigger than what you wear, boy shirts work great!)
  • scissors
  • creativity
salinabear and itsblitzzz are some of my go to YouTube channels for t-shirt cutting ideas and tutorials

Water fasting Update days 1-3

Sorry for not getting this post up earlier I was a busy bee with work. I hope you understand:)

Day 1   6/4/2012

I woke up at 9:10 to start getting ready for work. I am so sleepy but its not from fasting its because I stayed up too late last night. I dont feel hungry but I do feel like I can go for something, but I'll be fine. I have a long 4-5 hr day ahead of me plus travels so I will make sure that I drink enough water throughout the day.

Im back its 10:47 and all day I was tired and hungry, I could not stop thinking about food. Sometimes I would be distracted then I see something that reminds me of noms. All I could think about was what I was going to have once I got home. Its disgusting how much I thought about eating today...sadly I gave in and had a bowl of mini wheats, some doritos, and a bowl of ice cream, I feel bad that I gave in. Surprisingly, I 'm not hungry anymore because I realize that I want to do what I promised myself. I will complete the fast as scheduled, I am not going to quit!

Day 2  6/5/2012

Today I woke up sooo hungry but I kept repeating "Hunger I is my body fighting toxians" and this helped me get throught the day. Water was my best friends today. Times where I felt my hungriest I would consume more water and that helped to curve my craving :) Other than being super hungry today was a great day.

Day 3  6/6/2012

Hey yall!!!! Today is my last day of my fast and I am so happy Whew!!! Fasting is alot more difficult than what I thought it would be. Its all mental and thats the part I struggle with the most. I would Definatly do this again but not until I get a 9V battery for my scale and until I am better prepared.
Anyway today hunger pains wasnt as bad today as is was the other two days which is good. I drank alot of water almost to the point where I drank too much and started to feel bloated and uncomfortable.

New beginnings... water fasting

I have been doing more and more research on water fasting, looking up both sides the negative and the positive. So far the pros outweigh the cons.  Still I am a little bit sceptical but I want to give it the old college try. I don't want to seem like I'm trying to be something that I am not, trying to take the easy way, seeing lazy, or insecure. I want to do this more so for the health benefits rather than the weight loss even though that would be awesome. Frankly I really don't care if anyone disagrees with this because  this is my life, my opinion, and my choice. I am doing this for me and me only. Throughout my years of binging out of boredom I feel my body hating life.. slowing down and unhealthy. I just don't want to be overweight or feel disgusting on the inside everyday. I know that my biggest obstacle would be the mental part not so much the physical. I need to be mentally prepared for this fast and I am known to make excuses and to put stuff off. I promise myself I wont do that again. I am going to start off with a 3 day water fast to test it out.. if I think I can go longer I will. Seeing as though I love water this shouldn't be so much difficult. I don't know my measurements or anything but will post went I figure it out. I don't know my weight as of today but I am going to go off on my last weigh in which was 226lbs. I personally don't look that big but its true, my short term goal for the end of the summer is to be out of the 200's so 199lbs would be awesome with a 26lbs loss. I am not shy about posting my weight for everyone to see cause I dont realy care, once I lose it all it wont matter anyway. You get me? My ultimate goal is 170lbs I wouldn't want to go any less because I feel as though I would be too thin and really unhealthy and sicking and to be honest anything less than that would be unrealistic. So I'll post my fasting update in 3 more days. See you then :)

Sunday Playlist: Busy Bee

  1. Bubbles- System of a Down
  2. Oom Pah Pah- Oliver
  3. Roman Holiday- Nicki Minaj

These are some of my jams that I have been blasting all week. This past week was the busiest I have been since I've gotten home. So my Ipod really came in handy!!! :)

Summer Wish List

Well I got the job at Macy's. I am soo happy and blessed. During the whole interview my employer was talking as if I already got the job. These small hints where easy for me to pick up within 2 minutes of the interview. I have to come back tomorrow to finish up some more paperwork then I can start working. So with that said I have created a wish list  of things that I want to get...eventually. I am saving most of my money so I wont get crazy or anything or buy everything on this list before the end of summer....just wishing :)

Job Interview!!!

Holy crap I did it!!! All last week I sent out job applications, 5 total, and finally I got an interview with Macy's tomorrow. They must have liked my application if they wanted to interview me. Right? I think so. If I get this job it would be my first legit job in years. I am so nervous for the interview so I've been looking at blogs for interview tips, I also goggled interview at Macy's which I found to be the most helpful. So I compiled a list of possible interview questions to better prepare my self for tomorrow. The sucky part is that I have to catch 2 buses to get there hopefully I get the job so I didn't waste my money. I really really need this job because I am seriously broke I have nothing to my name right now lol. Once I start working I can put some money aside for my fall school expenses as well as crossing some of the stuff off my Summer Yolo List. Anyway I'm off to watch some LOST and prepare for my big day. Wish me luck!!! :)

Water Fasting. Long term or just a Quick Fix?

Ever since last summer I've been trying to sort of investigate Water Fasting as a whole. We all where told that if one does not eat will die. I thought that the average human being can only go  4-7 days without food. Well I was wrong. People have gone 30- 40 days without food and lost over 100lb, 1-2 lbs per day. There are many different kinds of fasting in which the amount of weight you lose a day varies. I wanted to see if Water fasting was a long term thing or just a quick fix. The truth is that Water Fasting Can be both of these things and it is up to the individual to decide if they want their Water Fasting benefits to stay or not. "Starving" yourself is not the hard part but its breaking the fast ( the period of which you stop fasting and slowly transition to regular foods) witch is the hard part. The key word is slow. You simply cannot go on a 12 day water fast and lose around 10-15lbs then eat the whole McDonalds menu, or raid your refrigerator. It takes at least 1 full week to completely break a water fast. Each day you would have to slowly introduce foods to your body. After you break a fast then you can learn from this and lead a healthier lifestyle of diet and exercise only then will the effects of your water fast be long term. Below are links to different site where the main focus is Water Fasting if you want to do your own research

Ultimate Guide to Sororities

Thinking about joining a sorority while in college? Well this is what sorority life is exactly all about!

Top College Fashion blogs and sites

I love visiting fashion blogs and websites aimed towards college students like myself. I find a lot of inspiration from these sites. Just wanted to share these site with you guys.
My personal favorite would be College Gloss. College Gloss was one of the first fashion blogs I've ever visited and I fell in love. There is so much going on and they make posts often (which is a plus!). They have many tabs that redirect you to different blog post subjects such as Lifestyle, Dating, Fashion, Pop/ Tech and a few others. I can rave on and on about this site but you just have to go check it out for yourself!!! And they have a twitter too CollegeGloss click!

Nails of the week: M&M's

This is my own m&m nail art  recreation. I am very proud of myself on how well it turn out. I enjoy doing my nails and making fun designs even though they are short and I don't have the steadiest of hands. I Used four different polishes pink, blue, red, yellow (acrylic paint), and green. Except for the yellow acrylic paint, all polishes are from the Confetti Nail Color line. You can find these polishes at your local CVS for $1.99. I also used a white stripper polish to
make the the M's which I bought for $1 at Five Below.

Here's a video similar to how I've done it  :)

Summer Yolo List

There are a lot of things that I want to accomplish by the end of summer. This is a list mostly made up of new things I want to try out and there are some things that I do traditionally each summer. I don't expect myself to complete everything that is on my list but to at least make an effort to do so. I strongly believe that this is my summer for change to have new experiences and to make a difference in my life.

Bloggy Blog Blog

My thoughts for the day.....
I love blogging, this is really fun to me. This is a great opportunity to share and express my thoughts, stories, feeling, and share interests. For the most part I like to keep things short, cute, and to the point but I cant help that sometimes I do get a bit carried away on a topic that I'm really really really passionate about. As ya'll can see this isn't my first time blogging. For my SEDU 183 class we had to create a blog and make posts relative to incorporating technology into classrooms. I don't want to delete those posts because they are of my interests. Blogging to me is like an online diary or journal, I always wanted to start a diary/ journal but I absolutely hate the act of writing anything long during the summer, I much rather type everything. Plus you cant upload pictures or embed videos to a piece of paper.  I believe I need  more experience typing so I think that typing my "journal" would help me gain speed and the ability do so without the looking at the keyboard. Anyway, blogging is fun, again, I find myself blogging multiple times a day. This would is my 4th new post today! Wow that's extreme. Is there a limit? I think not. This is my blog I post how often as I want lol.

Broadway Showtunes: Oliver

I've been jamming to Oom Pah Hah ever since I stumbled across it yesterday on Youtube. Since then ive looked up the lyrics to sing along with the video. My plan is to memorize it and sing it for my sorority musicale this fall or for Oprea Workshop next spring (if I choose to take the class). This song is form the musical production of  Oliver. Even though I have not heard of any other songs from this musical or the even seen the musical itself, I am very interested in looking it up and watching. I love this version of OoM Pah Pah ...enjoy :)

Sunday Playlist: May Favs

I listen to a wide verity of music ranging from different genres. Today's playlist is a few of my favorite jams that I've been listening to on repeat this month. Just cant get enough.

1. Whip -It -Nicki Minaj
2.The Wop - J Dash
3. Set Fire to the Rain -Adele
4. Eo Mai -Keali'i Reichel
5.Starships - Nicki Minaj
6. Drive by - Train

What are some of your may favorites?

My TV Obsession ... LOST

Even though this show is pretty old, Lost is by far the best tv drama/ Sci-Fi/ Triller/Mystery series I've watched in my entire life. I cannot stop watching this show, episode by episode I watch back to back...sometimes I stay up all night to finish a whole season because I cannot simply stop. Every single episode surprises me , things are contently changing. As of right now I am on the last season, season 6 episode 9. I am excited to see what happens next but as I get closer and closer to the end the more I realize that something BIG is about to happen........or did it already happen? Dun Dun Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Top 10 Cool Tools for School

Here it goes!

I find this tool to be very useful for learning proper grammar, spelling, etc.  But this is the lease interactive tool I have read about.10.
9. HyperPhysics.  I love Physics!! I wish i would have known about this tool when I was taking my physics courses in high school.
8. Wicked.  I'm not a science teacher, so this website doesn't have any personal use, but I can see how it would be beneficial for science teachers.  It allows students to have a hands-on portion to their learning.
7. WikiSpaces.  I like how this tool is great for teachers and parents. Parent involvement  is an issue in some districts this is a great way to eliminate it.
6. Student Publishing.  This is a unique tool I have never heard of anything like this before!  This is a website that allows students to publish their own books!  This tool has the ability to motivate students and get them excited.
5. Super Teacher Tools.  This website has everything students and teachers would need ranging from review games to seating charts. This tool is very beneficial to all educators.
4. Wordle Wordle allows you to make word-collages which is a very interactive way to learn new things. To me English teachers can get the most out of this tool.
3. Teachertube This site is similar to Youtube,  including teaching-related videos that are useful in order to come up with new ideas and plans for the classroom. Great collaborating tool!
2. Pinterest. I really like printerest for my personal use but  I think it's abilities in the classroom are limited.  However, I see it being use more so in  elementary classrooms
I like the idea of smart boards I find them to be quite useful and interactive. You gotta appeal to those visual and kinestetic learners some how!

Cool Tool for School

I wanted to make a post on Finale. Finale is a music notation program which allows one to create, arrange, play, print, share and save music by the use of the computer. Finale makes the music notation process much faster compared to pencil and manuscript paper. Finale has advanced playback capabilities with the ability to import and export midi files, and music entry options.

Music Education...the first in line for Budget Cuts

Budget cuts are the new trend to save money for American schools in which the discontinue programs that seem to be “less educational” But what officials do not know is that music education as well as other art education programs are in fact an  important part of school curriculum. These budget cuts are basically robbing todays children of success and a well rounded education.

Many studies have concluded that music programs and other arts programs help build and improve math, language, reading skills as well as boosting responsibility, motor skills. Early musical training helps to develop the different areas of the brain that involves language and reasoning. A child’s brain continues to develop well after birth, being exposed to music will only help enhance the child’s growth. Also studies have shown that student who are exposed to music education are more likely to succeed to standardized  tests as well as excelling in school compared to those who are not exposed to music.

Music Education provides student a quick looks at other cultures other than our own therefore, teaching them  respect and appreciation of their lifestyles. It is shown that music education  promotes teamwork and enhances discipline

Students are able to express themselves and let out any frustrations they may have  which I believe will reduce behavior problems in the classroom. Overall, why are we depriving our children our students of a rightful and balanced education? The proof  is in the pudding.

Dont Believe Me? Here Look for Yourself.

Copple, C., & Bredekamp, S. (2009). Developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood programs serving children from birth through age 8. (3 ed.). Washington, D.C.: National association for the education of young ch.

12 Benifits of Music Education

Tweet or not to Tweet

I use twitter all the time just for personal use I have never thought to use it for educational reasons. I know who my audience is, my friends enjoy and are interested about my day, funny jokes share, links to videos and page. Even though others my think my tweets are too quirky and pointless they are not for you just simply unfollow.  If i were to post more educational tweets my audience will change gear towards those who are interested in that subject. I am not saying that I am not but I believe that one should not mix business with pleasure so to speak. I think it is awesome that teachers and many educators found a way to may twitter less recreational and more educational. I would definately consider using twitter in a class of older students to keep then engaged in certain lessons.

The power of PLN's ...are they really that powerful?

After reading the first chapter of Personal Learning Networks By Will Richardson and Rob Mancabelli I was somewhat left on the fence, I agree with some of these points but disagreed with most. I liked how these men presented their argument by stating their points and supporting it by the use of references and quotes of reputable individuals. It was very clear in this chapter that technology is an important tool that should be put to use in today's classrooms. However, I strongly believe that personal networking sites and internet use should not be used in early childhood classrooms ( P-4).

It is said in this chapter that computer use is perfect for any grade level...I disagree, being a early childhood education major, young children shouldn't be exposed to computers just yet. I am fully aware the we are living in a digital world but that does not mean that every single classroom, every single grade level needs or has to use computers. The use of computers, phones, tablets at such a young age will develop antisocial adults. Do we really want the younger generation to be glued to the computer, obsessing over the latest web pages?T hese early years are the most important years of child's personal development, if we deny our young students of this we are not doing our job. Many theorist of early childhood education state that children need stimulation through play and activities with physical interaction to learn and develop. See? This all can be done with out any device.

First post!

Hello, my name is Miawna Johnson and I am a undergraduate student at Edinboro University duel majoring in Humanities in Music Education and Early Childhood. My goal is to open up an Early Childhood Academy of Music where young children can go to learn and develop musical skills as well as being exposed to music. This is a wonderful experience for parents to help their children to become open and well rounded individuals. I hope to share my experiences in music and in teaching by using this blog.
